Dominican Mission Trip-Day 2

Day 2 we packed up the trucks and started off on a 2 hour journey to the next city. The plan was to do a dental clinic from 9-12. Then do a baseball clinic at 2:00 followed by a friendly game vs. the locals. We started across the river and up the hill to start our journey and BAM. The bus died. Gary (the missionary and our driver) rolled it in reverse and tried to jump start it, but it was no use. It's funny because when we started this trip, Dr. Kennedy made a point of telling all of us to have "No expectations" on this trip. "Anything can happen." So, we never made it for clinics that day, and we decided the Lord must have felt we needed a break. Gary rolled the bus back down the hill and across the lake (luckily we were that close to the mission house) and it took them about 3 hours to fix it. Some of us took a nap (ha!), some cooled off in the creek....all sorts of things happened. It was a nice break from the crazy schedule. I snapped a few pictures that morning of what was happening around the mission house.
The first picture is of women headed back down stream after collecting fresh water. The second picture is of Popi (Bleau/Olivia's grandad) building a dam in the creek. Bay cooled off for a little bit and bathed in this creek twice at the end of the week. He only got in this day because he was hot from stick ball (see next picture). The last picture is one of my favorite pics from the week....I love how I managed to capture so much in one frame. The boys playing stick ball, families walking upstream to collect fresh water, and a group of guys washing their car in the creek. The people of the Dominican may be poor, but they certainly take good care of what they do have. Most people rode motorcycles, donkeys, or bikes, but some had cars/trucks. We saw several washing their vehicles in the creek!
