Sping Break 2011

Well, after a crazy year, we Griffin's were so excited about getting out of here for Spring Break! I had booked a condo in Hilton Head several months back and after some schedule arranging, we were all able to make the trip. It was perfect timing too....you know that old saying "When it rains, it pours?" Tis true. I can testify. After that horrible flooding we had several weeks ago I kept smelling something terrible. Turns out it was coming from the basement. Yep. Totally flooded. They had to rip out all of the carpet and padding, and take down half the drywall. Luckily, there was no mold. But wait, while they were checking everything else out, they found another leak coming from our kitchen. Water under the hardwoods, behind the fridge, and, ugh, lots of mold. This little find happened right before we left. Needless to say, I was ready to high tail it out of here. I'll post more on the "when it rains it pours" comment later, but for now, enjoy pics from our much needed Spring Break! God is so, so good even in the midst of chaos. Hilton Head was unseasonably warm. It was absolutely beautiful the entire week and not a drop of rain! Jody was able to drive over with us for half the week, then he flew to San Diego for a dental course. When he left, my friend Sheri and her son Nick flew over to finish out the week. It was so perfect. So laid back. We enjoyed lots of swimming, lots of great food, family bike outings, and fun in the sand.......Just a wonderful week!

Our little family........on the first day!

Last of Spring Break

Last day :( Pic of me and Addie before heading to the beach!

Bay's best friend Eli and his cousins were staying just a few minutes away (by beach). They came up to the pool several times to swim, because the pool where we were staying was heated. This is what the girls taught Addie! Hee hee hee :)

Last night.......dinner at the Dunes House. Addie and Asher with their best buddy Nick!

Bay and Eli......Can't wait to go back again. It was a perfect Spring Break!!!!!

My Birthday

Is a little bit odd to be doing a post about my own birthday, but, a mother's work is never done and you wouldn't get to see this sweet stuff if I didn't take the time to share it! Last week was my birthday and my kids did the sweetest thing ever. It was honestly the best birthday EVER. God has given us the perfect example of HIS love through these children and I am honored to be their mommy :). Here's the scoop......These 3 spent the 4 days leading up to my birthday planning for my big day. They whispered everytime they were in the car. They diagramed. They planned it all out. They were more excited about the day than me:)

They made the plan and then Jody was gracious enough to help them make it happen. These guys got up at 5:30am and made me a very specific breakfast. Apparently all those whispers was their planning! Here's the kiddos with the finished product....my birthday pancake face. (They are holding their drawn out diagram of what it should look like!)

Best Birthday breakfast EVER!

Me with my babies (it's early y'all, we look rough)

They also took me out for dinner and got me this sweet birthday cake. Of course, I couldn't eat it because of my new found food sensitivites, but Bay sure had a good time watching me try to blow out the candles. Trick Candles. Bay thought this was so funny. After awhile, Addie started to panic and I thought the smoke detectors were going to go off! Ha Ha! Thank you Jody, Bay, Addie, Asher for the best birthday ever. And thank you mom, dad, and channa for the lunches, sweet gifts, and precious time together (shopping of course)........I will forever remember this special birthday!!!!!!!

Read Across America

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!! Yesterday was Read Across America day in honor of Dr. Seuss' Birthday....The kids at CAK were all participants, and the Pre-1st and 1st graders hosted a special "Mom's and Muffins" get together in honor of the special day. It was too cute, with all the kids dressed as the Cat in the Hat...I am so thankful that I was able to attend this special day in the twins class. Such a creative idea :) Here's a summary of the fun day!

The tables for the mom's. We sat in the seats and when Mrs. Shipley rang the bell, the kids switched mom's.....they took turns reading Dr. Seuss books to each of us :)

Addie reading to Mrs. Shipley (her teacher)!

CAK Art Show

CAK recently had an art show to show off some of the hard work being done by some of the students. The art teacher had the best idea.....have 2nd graders draw a picture of a creature (any creature) and then have one of the high school art students take the creature and place it into a setting. Pretty cool I thought! At the art show, Bay was able to meet the high school student who collaborated with him on his picture. Her name was Mary and boy did Bay get lucky.....she was one of the students in the advanced art class. I know I'm partial, but she/Bay had one of the two best projects in the show! The first pic is Bay with Mary..

Bay with the finished product....

The two projects together....Bay on the left (of course!) and Mary's on the right. She ended up having to take this project home to finish it....isn't the colored road the coolest thing :)
