Final Dominican Pics!!!
Dominican Day 5 (continued)
Dominican Mission- Day 5
A few pictures from this place.......Chera-lyn and I in the only picture I have of us from the trip. The second picture is of a sweet child. I had the privilege of painting this sweet face! The next one is a picture of some of the many handprints the kids did in VBS.
As is common in the Dominican, if you have any money (remember there are just "have" and "have nots"- there is no middle class) then you have a Haitian maid. Gary and Cindy have several people who work in and around the mission house. Cindy had a new maid who helped her with all of the cooking and cleaning while we were there, and on this last day, she made the trip with us to fix lunch for the day. I'm not sure if anyone else really noticed, but I was in awe of this woman.....I made sure to squeeze her arm and say "Gracias" (thank you) when I went through the line at lunch. She stood out in that hot sun all morning over this pile of sticks making the rice and beans for the day. It was hot. So hot. And she was standing over that fire, walking back and forth to get clean water from the truck to make everything. I didn't want her to think that her efforts went unnoticed....I think she was the real servant of the day, quietly doing her job in the hot sun. I made sure to snap a picture of the food in the process of cooking. It was literally just set up in the back yard of the church! It's funny, but I didn't get a picture of her, nor did I catch her name. She never really spoke to any of us.
Lastly, Bay handing out stickers to the kids after they finished coloring sheets!

Dominican Mission Trip- Day 4 (continued)
Sorry y'all......I accidentally pushed published on that last post before I posted anything!
A few more from the city of Guayabal. A view down the city street, Bay handing out Spanish letters to some of the children before our bus left (his Spanish class at school wrote letters before we left). The little girl in the picture had such a crush on Bay. She was just standing outside the bus while we sat and waited to leave. She and several other girls would just smile, and wave, and giggle. It was so cute!! And Bay was so embarassed!! Everywhere we went the moms and children loved Bay and his hair. They've seen blonde hair before, I'm just not sure that they had seen it on a boy. :)
Dominican Mission Trip-Day 4
The first picture is of the kids playing hot potato. We played this in every city and the children LOVED it! I randomly picked it up at Cracker Barrel (after church!) the Sunday before we left. It was a big hit. Hot Potato knows no language barrier!!!!! The next one is of Bay assisting his daddy....he was so good at handing him gauze when he needed it!
I'm posting the next picture so you can see (again) the people literally standing in the window watching.
Lastly, another picture from VBS. One of the children with our group would sing the National Anthem for the kids. Then, one of the children from the Dominican would stand and sing their National Anthem. This little boy was awesome. I was so impressed by the children there....they may not have much, may not get much, but whatever they do have, they cherish. You know, take care of it. These kids all stood, and sang their anthem with gusto. Loud and proud. It was inspiring.
Dominican Mission Trip- Day 3, VBS/Clinic
Olivia reading Noah's Ark story in English, the little girl to her left reading in Spanish. Sweet baby I could squeeze! Bay and a new buddy. We found these guys behind the building housing the dental clinic. The Dominican kid is like 12 years old and pitched like a pro. I'm not joking. Remember this face. You may see it on tv one day!
Dominican Mission Trip- Day 3 (continued)
Let me explain picture number two. It was a drill to teach the boys to watch the base coaches when running bases. We had a guy set up in between 1st and 2nd and he would either wave them onto second or motion back, at which point they would have to dive back to 1st base. Rule was, if you miss 1st base running through....well, you miss it, you kiss it. They thought this was hilarious!! I barely got the picture because it happened so fast. Only 3 boys had to kiss the base!
Some of the beautiful hillside of Ocoa, Bay and another one of his buddies, and a few more from camp.....
Dominican Mission Trip 2012-Day 3
So, these pics are from the baseball clinic that day. I'll have several posts for day 3 to fit everything in! Picture 2 is what we saw when we got off the bus (9am)...the boys were already warming up. I snapped another pic of a little boy coming down the street for camp, and lastly, one of the small groups working on throwing.
